Course Title
Democratization
Course Description
This course introduces students to the study of democratization, including theories about why and when non-democratic states are more likely to undergo a transition toward democracy. Much of the discussion focuses on countries undergoing such transitions at the end of the 20th century and beginning of the 21st century. The course also examines how political scientists define and measure democracy and the conditions necessary for countries to sustain such transitions and consolidate as democracies. 4 SH.
