Cooperative Programs
Susquehanna has established cooperative programs with several universities to expand opportunities for Susquehanna students. These programs allow interested students to pursue a special combination of liberal arts and professional studies. Cooperative candidates typically study in Susquehanna’s liberal arts programs for two to three years. They then transfer to a more specialized university to earn a professional degree.
Engineering Joint Program with Columbia University, Washington University in St. Louis and Case Western University
Students spend three years at Susquehanna, taking a meticulously structured program of Susquehanna distributional requirements, courses for a major program in chemistry, computer science, mathematics or physics, and pre-engineering foundation courses prescribed by the specific joint university.
For Columbia University, students must earn a pre-engineering GPA of 3.30 or higher, as calculated by Columbia University. Additionally, the minimum grade for each pre-engineering science or math course must be a B (3.0) or better on the first attempt.
For Washington University in St. Louis, students must earn an overall and pre-engineering GPA of 3.25 or higher, as calculated by Washington University.
For Case Western University, students must earn an overall and pre-engineering GPA of 3.0 or higher, as calculated by Case Western University. Approved candidates enroll at the joint university for two years, earning both a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, computer science, mathematics or physics from Susquehanna and an engineering degree from the joint university. For more information, contact Professor of Physics Samya Zain.
Joint Degree programs are:
Chemistry 3+2 Pre-Engineering (Bachelor of Arts)
Computer Science 3+2 Pre-Engineering (Bachelor of Science)
Mathematics 3+2 Pre-Engineering (Bachelor of Arts)
Physics 3+2 Pre-Engineering (Bachelor of Science)
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Early Acceptance Programs
High school students as well as first- and second-year Susquehanna University students (with fewer than 60 college credits total) may apply to LECOM’s Early Acceptance Program through LECOM’s Early Acceptance Program (EAP) portal. After screening, selected students will be offered an interview by LECOM. If successful they will be given provisional acceptance to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program. LECOM will guarantee 5 EAP seats annually to the DO and DMD programs for qualifying students. Seats for dental school will be available only at the LECOM Bradenton, FL dental school. Seats in the Pharmacy program will be available at the Lake Erie Campus or the Bradenton, FL campus. LECOM will guarantee 2 EAP seats for provisionally accepted students in the DPM program.
Pharmacy Joint Program with Duquesne University and Temple University
Students spend three years at Susquehanna, taking a meticulously structured program of Susquehanna Central Curriculum requirements, courses for a major program in chemistry or biochemistry, and prepharmacy foundation courses prescribed by the specific joint university.
For Duquesne University, students will complete a three-year undergraduate Pre-Pharmacy curriculum at Susquehanna University, 110-116 semester hours towards the graduation requirements for either the chemistry or biochemistry major, including all central curriculum requirements, earn a minimum grade of “C” in all Susquehanna University undergraduate courses, and maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.50 or better in all Susquehanna University undergraduate courses.
For Temple University, students will complete a minimum of 112 semester hours towards the graduation requirements for the biochemistry major, including all central curriculum requirements and the necessary additional prerequisite courses, within the three years immediately preceding matriculation at Temple. In addition, students will earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all math and science courses and earn a minimum grade of a “C” in courses considered for transfer into the PharmD Program.
Approved candidates enroll at the joint university for four years, earning both a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry from Susquehanna and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the joint university. Select coursework from the first year at the joint university will transfer back to Susquehanna University, and students will complete their bachelor’s degree requirements at the end of that year (residency waivers will be approved upon submission to the Residency Waiver Committee). Students will not satisfy the requirements of their Susquehanna bachelor’s degree until the additional courses from the joint university are completed. For more information, contact Professor of Chemistry Swarna Basu.
ROTC
The Army’s Reserve Officer Training Corps program prepares college graduates for entry-level positions within the United States Army. Many graduates serve for extended periods on active duty with the regular Army; others pursue civilian careers while serving part time in the Army Reserve or the National Guard. ROTC students are eligible for an academic stipend and scholarship assistance. Susquehanna participates in the ROTC program based at Bucknell University. Further information is available by contacting the Department of Military Science at Bucknell University at 570-577-1013.
